THE RESET

This ship was designed for a friend's project. From the very get go the idea was to make it look as if the Millenium Falcon was mashed up with a tricked out muscle car. I Started with trying to explore different myriads of sillohettes to see which ones would read from afar and also have that strong profile we were after. Finally setting on a handful of them and starting to narrow that down even further.

After the initial exploration rounds, I focused on a single design and how to begin fleshing that out to build scale as well as start to begin pulling out design landmarks on the craft to begin to give it it's own personality. This was also the stage where I wanted to begin blocking in the different surface materials to compliment the vibe we were trying to achieve.

Sometimes its just fast to paint and doodle over a design to move a bit quicker and iterate faster.

After further pushing the design, I thought it might be helpful to start informing more about the surface material by doing some surface studies of what the actual "painted" sections of the craft would start to look like. Definitely wanted to still give it a feel like it belongs to a car but also frame it as something that would fit on a ship.

And to help tie everything together in the end, wanted to also give it a bit of the stylized look that my friend was going for animation wise. A bit of a cell shaded look mixed in with some real world materials. In the end, was a fun exercise in jumping into a bit more stylized but still having those traditional ship building foundations.
